About

Claudia Suemoto is a physician who graduated from the University of São Paulo Medical School (FMUSP), with a residency in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at the same institution. She has a PhD about the association between cardiovascular risk factors and dementia. She received a Master's in Epidemiology and a postdoctoral degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. Claudia is an Associate Professor of Geriatrics at FMUSP. She is director of the Biobank for Aging Studies at FMUSP and a researcher at the Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brazil). His research focuses mainly on successful brain aging and dementia, and their associations with cardiovascular diseases. In 2016, she was one of the laureates of the "For Women in Science" award promoted by L'Oreal, UNESCO, and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. In 2022, she received the Ewald W. Busse Research Award in the Biomedical Sciences for her contribution to aging studies. Claudia is a member of the Advisory Council of the Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART), Programs Chair of the Diversity Professional Interest Area of ISTAART, and the scientific director of the Brazilian Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology, São Paulo section.

 

Research interests: His main area of interest is the study of risk factors for dementia, mainly the association between cardiovascular diseases and dementia.
